Three weeks ago hubby noticed two of our chickens wanting to sit on the eggs that were laid in the boxes. They were "getting broody"...(chicken talk).....well, hubby couldn't stand the thought of these chickens wanting to be mamas and being disappointed, so he left four eggs under them, with markings on them so we would leave them whilst collecting eggs. Hubby was so cute....I swore we would find him sitting on the eggs next...he was so concerned about these babies. So...today we went out to check on the mamas. We heard peeping!!! Two eggs had hatched!
Unfortunately, Fifi, the Mille Fleur mama was new to this and when we got too close she freaked out. One of her babies got out from under her and was peeping really loud in the nest. She started to attack him. I picked him up and tried to put him behind her and under her so she wouldn't notice....well, she was having none of this. She was going to kill him.
So, we brought him inside and got a heat lamp and water and chick starter food for him. He is a little squeetheart. We will try to get him back out with the other babies as they hatch. If that doesn't work we will bring one in for him to grow up with! Here's the first pictures of Bumble. He's a doll. He walks up to Ashlee's neck and snuggles in and stops peeping and goes to sleep! Here's Bumblefoot!!!

I'm so excited that I got to see these !!! So much cuteness....both of them !!! Not a better baby chicken butt around !!!
I hope you can re-introduce Bumble safely back to the nest!
It's strange to walk into a department and see her there in a lab coat looking very professional! My daughter! *sniff*
I'm very proud! :D
Squeeeee!
I hope we can introduce him back with no problems, too. But, whatever happens, we got his mom and all her buddies last year, through the mail, at 24 hours old....so, I think little Bumble will do fine! I just don't want him to grow up alone, so a peeper friend will probably be in order! :D
oh how CUTE! that's sad about the mommy flipping out though. Or did you just make that up so you could has baby chickie in the house? :-P
the foot and baby chicken butt is killing me! like a big earring!
I doubt that I will be able to put him back out in the chicken yard now...he's too dang cute. So....if we bring a sibling in for him to grow up with...well....what's wrong with that? ;D
Damn....he has the cutest butt ever!!!
Maybe Meg can start a new section on CO--Chicks n' Necks.
Chicken necks? (Ralph Wiggam)
Ashlee is gorgeous.
Mama freaked out b/c she's a new mom, right? If she broods again she probly won't do that.
This little dewd is really LOUD! He is in the spare bedroom in his little improvised house peeping at the top of his lungs! :D I am delighted!
Yes, Mama is totally new to this entire process...and, unfortunately, so are we....so next time she will be a professional mama, and will really know what she is doing! She has been so devoted to her eggs.....and there are two little peepers underneath her now...so we are not going near her at all until she gains some confidence!
I am still thinking about what to do with Bumble. I sort of want to re-introduce him outside, but, of course, he has now become a Personality and I am afraid to risk it...so he will probably grow up in here! ;) He does need a little friend, though, so the next project is deciding which peeper to bring in!.....we have four more eggs that should hatch next week. Snert!
She is gorgeous! She has finished up college and is in the work force, now! She's so excited...in a week she gets her first paycheck! w00t!
His little chicken-butt actually wiggles every time he peeps! :D
I think once he (and friend?) get bigger there will be no problem!
Was it Ashlee who did the cake decorating class? She could do a wee birdseed cake for Bumble! Hee.
It was Sarah, my DIL who is an excellent cake decorator!
Doh! Sorry I got my who's who mixed up!
(And I once called you a GrandLauri, when I should've called you Aunt Lauri. Oy. Duh.)

[Not a North 'Murrican]
That's the whole joke. Someone says "Guess what?"
The other says "What?"
Someone answers "Chicken butt."
That's it. We used to say it when we were kids over and over. And think it was quite funny. Now aren't you glad you aren't a N. 'Murrican? :D
